In my last blog, I evaluated the preparation of a new government sponsored health insurance program. The plan, which was induced by President Obama, is to help give more Americans healthcare coverage. This insurance program goal is to allow those who do not have the money to buy proper health insurance that they can still be covered. However, there are differences of opinions in the government about this plan. The Republicans believe that the new plan may take away the healthcare businesses from private healthcare companies because this new program would be much cheaper. In order for healthcare to be reformed, these different arguments have to be solved.
The argument on healthcare is whether a government sponsored program is the right action in reforming healthcare and whether taxes are the best way to pay for this program. The Republicans believe that government program is not necessary. They want to be able to have private insurance companies lower their rates for proper insurance. This would not only give more people insurance policies but allow for companies to compete with each other which would help the economy. However, this idea may be too unrealistic. It would be quite difficult to get major insurance companies to drop their prices. Also, there is no guarantee that healthcare insurance would get better. But looking at Obama’s plan, it will at least provide a means for all people to obtain some type of insurance and medical policy. Although it may take away some business from private insurance companies, it will not affect them enough to where they are in trouble. An insurance policy for any type of person seems like a good idea to me.

Are taxes a good way to pay for economic needs? The tax rate has increased by 1% in September, and where I live now has the highest tax rate in the state (8.25%). It makes a big difference from the previous 7.25%. I hear that they are using taxes to pay for free swine flu vaccines.
ReplyDeleteCompetition is also key for businesses and the economy to grow. Then again, monopolies are not beneficial. In a way, it is healthy for businesses to compete with one another.
This argument is somewhat confusing to me because I do not really have a good background in the whole Heath Care debate, but I do know that the poorest people in the country have no health care insurance whatsoever. These seems like a major issue to me, and from what you have blogged it seem that Obama’s plan would help out with this issue. I feel like as many people as possible should be able to have health care because if they do not it makes it virtually impossible to go to the hospital, doctor, etc. if they are in need of it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with nature vs. nurture with her statement of competition is best for businesses. When there is competition prices go down because these companies want business so they offer the best deals. If the health care system were to be run by the government it might initially allow other private insurers, as obama says, but his is not say that in the future that the government run agency would not manopolize over the others!
ReplyDeleteThe probelm is the companies have always been competing against each other and yet the prices still have not been going down. If a public healthcare program is formed at least everyone can get some type of medical coverage and that could go a long way.
ReplyDeleteYes everyone would have health coverage but what type? If you go to the post office and even the DMV what do you see? Long lines and unhappy impatient people. The equality of these government run companies are not stepping up to the plate and providing their customers with quality service. Is this what we have to look forward to with health care?
ReplyDeleteThe issue with health Care in America and the road to reforming it is in the psychic of the American mentality.
ReplyDeleteTo reform Healthcare in America will be equal to fixing the culture. We as Americans come from different part of the globe and from the onset, we are made to believe that societal security is money. Pure capitalism is the root of happiness. Therefore, we have belief in money than anything a society can offer. In other areas of the world, money is not everything. Societies bond together to take care of one another. Since we as American are so culturally diverse and trust on money to buy us everything we lacked from our ancestoral lands, it is very hard to talk us out of giving up a little for the sake of our neighbor that we may not be bonded to. Throughout Europe, this is what has happened; societies have given up some for the sake of their brethren and the betterment of say, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, etc. In such cases they have been willing to accept taxes so that the governments can care for their fellow citizens.
In order to help the Obama administration reform healthcare, the masses will have to run on Washington, like the million man match for day in and day out. The Europeans will do that but we don't. We take opinion surveys, we have the media argue on our behalf; the media itself is biased because they are the better of.
Government regulation of the Insurance companies and public option will be what gets healthcare to be reformed in America.
